My husband and I both agreed that we needed to get out of the house more and get some exercise. Since we lack the motivation to do it just because#&148;, and because just walking around is pretty boring, we decided to take up geocaching. We purchased a Garmin eTrex Legend GPS, and were ready to go....

Or so we thought. I loaded up the GPS with waypoints for some local caches and printed out the cache descriptions from geocaching.com. We then set out to find three of them in our immediate area. After about three hours, I think, we were 0 for 3. It was pretty discouraging.
The first cache was located on campus.
I had scouted it out during the week while I was on my lunch break, but there were way too many students around for me to have a good look. I wandered around and pretended to tie my shoe several times, but I didnt find anything. So we came back on the weekend, and we actually found the correct location, but the cache was missing.
Some non-geocacher may have found it and discarded it. I e-mailed the owner, and, armed with confirmation of the location and my camera, came back the next Monday to check one more time. But, as the picture shows, its definitely empty.
The next cache took us to Daley Park. Its right next to the church that my husband and I were married in. Apparently, its a pretty popular park, and we couldnt get near the cache area due to a softball game in progress. We havent made it back here yet, but we will some day soon.
Our third and last cache for the day was a multi-cache in a park hiding behind a business center. Ive never seen this place before, and we drive by the bank building here all the time. I forgot my camera the day we were there, but Im definitely bringing it for the next time we seek that cache. The park is really cool. There are turtles in the ponds which have a little creek flowing between them, ducks all over the place, and probably some fish too.
Again, there were several people in the area, which made us self-conscious about looking too hard. We didn't want to look suspicious. A professional photographer (I think) was posing a girl up against some of the neat looking trees in the park. While they were elsewhere, we climbed up in a couple of the trees to look for the second part of the cache, but didnt find anything. It was nice to climb trees again, though...I did that a lot when I was younger :)
We were pretty tired by that time, so we headed home empty-handed.
