Skip the blather, on to the music!

“Filk” is a very difficult term to describe, and if you google it, you'll find many different definitions. They do, however, share a few things in common and I believe these commonalities give the best idea of “What is a Filk?”.

Basically, (and I’m not going to get complicated, because, quite frankly, I don’t feel it IS that complicated) filks are song parodies written by Science Fiction and Fantasy fans. The original song can be a modern one, or a traditional folk song. Think “Weird Al” Yankovic for geeks.. ok, even more so than he is already.

The songs that I’ve collected on these pages are mostly from a few cassettes that I bought from a catalog many moons ago. Most of them aren’t actually filk songs, they are traditional folk songs that bards and minstrels still play today. You’ve probably heard a few of them at your local Renaissance Festival. These cassettes are “Yet Another Example of Inhuman Decadence”, “Not Necesarily Medieval Songs, We'd All Like to Sing”, “Yonatan... Burned at the Stake”, “And There Was Much Rejoicing (And Then They Ate the Minstrals)” sung by Yonatan von Schwartzüberflek. Yonatan is an SCA bard. His current albums can be purchased at AmberWyvern Studios.

WARNING: Some of the songs herein are of a bawdy nature. If you’re easily offended by suggestive material, then don’t click any further. I’ve left out any songs that -I- find offensive, but we may not agree. I don’t want to hear it if you don’t like something. After all, I did warn you...
